Reevaluate was a beautiful and talented young lady with an amazing soul. I guarantee you that this would still be a big deal if it were anyone else as the suspect.

A young woman was killed and your attitude of not giving a shit is exactly what is wrong with the world.

Maybe this case does not interest us for the drama, maybe it is purely because the majority of South Africans put themselves in the Steenkamp family shoes and want justice.

Now stop mimicking what your blogger friends are saying on twitter in hope of gaining a few hits on your .wordpress.com blog.

As I said on Facebook to a similar rant:
Is it SAD that someone died?
      Of course it is.

Do I find this TRIAL interesting.
      Not in the slightest.

About 21,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes, according to the United Nations.
So if I had to really care about every person who I don’t know, who dies… I would care 21 000 times more about Africa than this celeb trial.

I hope I make sense. The purpose is not to offend, but to express.
And currently, I’m expressing a complete lack of interest in this trial whilst making a a satirical reference to humanity’s inane obsession with things that really shouldn’t affect them.

      • Ryan Vermooten 4 March 2014 at 17:55 #

Surely each and every one of those atrocities should be important and cared about? I’m not sure, often I hear this argument being put forward and I ask myself where that person is coming from.

There are certain people who really get involved in other causes and feel that this one has taken centre stage. To those people I really do get where they are coming from, and essentially they have a very strong argument. But for most , this argument seems to me as if they are pointing out that many care about this case, but no others, but surely that is better than the alternative of caring about absolutely none of them?

Hence the point that my entire blog boils down to:
        MY opinion.
I am not a credible news source, nor do I claim to be an extremely enlightened citizen of the world (yes, I saw that as a blogger bio before).
I am simply me, stating (often in some or other slightly more creative manner) my opinions regarding *insert topic here*.

you sir are a quality lost in todays world, truth and simple is how it should be, with regards to the Oscars , how fitting they both on the same day lol, all drama and meaningless, agreed !
the best way of putting this into perspective I see, is Queens Bohemian Rhapsody:

        Is this the real life?
        Is this just fantasy?
        Caught in a landslide,
        No escape from reality.

        Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies and see,
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I’m easy come, easy go,
        Little high, little low,
Anyway the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me, to me.

        Mama, just killed my Gal,
Put a gun against her head,
Pulled my trigger, now she’s dead.
        Mama, life had just begun,
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away.

        Mama, ooh,
Didn’t mean to make you cry,
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters.

Too late, my time has come,
        Sends shivers down my spine,
        Body’s aching all the time.
Goodbye, everybody, I’ve got to go,
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth.

Mama, ooh (anyway the wind blows),
        I don’t wanna die,
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all.

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?
        Thunderbolt and lightning,
        Very, very frightening me.
        (Galileo) Galileo.
        (Galileo) Galileo,
        Galileo Figaro
        Magnifico.

I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me.
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let me go!)
Will not let you go. (Let me go!)
        Never, never let you go
        Never let me go, oh.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Oh, mama mia, mama mia (Mama mia, let me go.)
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh, baby, can’t do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here.

        (Oh, yeah, oh yeah)

        Nothing really matters,
        Anyone can see,
        Nothing really matters,
        Nothing really matters to me.

        Anyway the wind blows.

Agree with you 100%! There are more important things in life, than gawking at a trial about an athlete! Humanity’s sense of values and morality is skewed.

        Thanx for reading, Teresa.
Also, thanx for getting “than” right. So very few people do…

What do you say to those who care deeply about those raped, robbed, murdered or starving to death on a daily basis? Those that follow as many of these stories as possible AND also find a massive interest in the pistorius case. Whether you think people should care about it or not, the very fact that it is so popular remains a fact, and remains so for a reason regardless of your sentiment. When a countries disabled star athlete, who stole the hearts of the entire planet shoots and kills another celeb, then yes its going to be news that draws massive public interest. I’m not sure if you are saying that this shouldn’t be big news, or if you are saying that you just don’t want it to be. But it clearly is of major public interest. Just another inward-facing self opinionated blog. Just imagine if everyone had one of these.

      • BaasDeBeer 9 March 2014 at 13:00 #

        My blog.
        My opinion.
        Your comment
        Your opinion.
        I respect yours.

Also, note the difference between not caring and not interested.
While we are on that, the difference between ME not being interested, and forcing you to be not-interested.

      • Bohemia 12 March 2014 at 09:05 #

The fact that you are talking about it shows that you interested in it.

      • BaasDeBeer 12 March 2014 at 10:51 #

Yes, of course I am interested in the effect this dumbing down of the nation has on our country.
The limitation of world view that leads to such a narrow and uninformed perspective, will sooner or later turn us in SA, into stereotypical Americans: Ignorant.

    • Rudi 3 March 2014 at 15:22 #

“A young woman was killed and your attitude of not giving a shit is exactly what is wrong with the world.”

Excuse me what? Every day hundreds of people are raped and murdered, and now we have to make a fuss because a popular athlete killed a pretty girl? What about all the other people that die every day? Oh what? They weren’t famous enough. I completely agree with this article, there are MUCH more serious things to worry about that this.

You remind me of this girl I work with whom I asked what she thinks about the Kiev crisis and her reply was, “what’s a Kiev?”

Please get your priorities in order.

      • Ryan Vermooten 4 March 2014 at 18:02 #

when you write “Excuse me what? Every day hundreds of people are raped and murdered, and now we have to make a fuss because a popular athlete killed a pretty girl? What about all the other people that die every day? Oh what? They weren’t famous enough.”

my question is how exactly are you “giving a shit” about all of the others who are raped and murdered?

Is it important to act in a similar manor to each, even if your manor to all of them is to not “give a shit”? Or would it rather be more beneficial to change your stance to actually caring?

      • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 18:05 #

Ryan, just fishing a bit for your opinion:
Do you think that it is better to care intensely for a few (pour 100% of your caring capability out on say 10 people) or to spread your care thin to cover many, many people?

I used to be of the latter persuasion, but now feel more inclined to the first.

      • jonathan 5 March 2014 at 10:38 #

In the Woody Alan movie “Radio Days”, a young woman is interrupted by someone saying: “Pearl Harbor has been attacked. This means war!” (or words to that effect).
The woman response: “Who is Pearl Harbor?”

    • Bagel 3 March 2014 at 15:28 #

You sir is exactly what is wrong with the world, you are more worried about a FUCKING MURDER TRIAL, instead of WORLD WIDE protests and uprisings, dont worry go home switch on your DSTV and go watch you’re precious little show, while a small portion of the world gets ready for a possible new war, you continue watching your sensationalized bullshit, im sure the world will be a better place once everybody has seen the outcome of the trial

once again thanks for proving humans really have fuck all inside their heads, thanks for being a fucking retard

      • BaasDeBeer 3 March 2014 at 17:24 #

        Point made.
But I have to say, thank you for making m want a Bagel now. I know it’s irrelevant, but so is this trial.

    • Larakapara 4 March 2014 at 14:42 #

Haha….you said “reevaluate” <—- DAMN you autocorrect

      • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 14:46 #

I lolled at the autocorrect, but out of absolute angst and fear of retribution (well, actually mostly mostly apathy) I didn’t point it out :p

    • Doofkhwet 4 March 2014 at 20:34 #

I agree. Not caring about one dead woman (person) is definitely whats wrong with the world.

I’m kidding, idiot. People driving beamers and benzes while millions starve byside is whats wrong with the world you total utter dimwitted twit. iPhones and samsung galaxies second that.

Now go sell everything you own, buy only what you need and spend the balance on education. Drop off a bunch of textbooks at an underprivileged school, tit.

      • Doofkhwet 4 March 2014 at 20:35 #

I was responding to OP, just to be clear.

    • Matt 5 March 2014 at 16:14 #

One of the journos mentioned that in the court next door was a murder trial where a man murdered his pregnant partner. This kind of thing goes on every day. It’s bad but this case isn’t anything special except it involves a celebrity.

      • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 19:07 #

Exactly. Its saddening, shocking and absolutely repulsive.

    • Open Your eyes 5 March 2014 at 16:29 #

I’m in no way denigrating the tragic loss of life or the incredible sadness it brings to loved ones. But John Campbell what has justice got to do with the trial being big news? 1000s of women die in South Africa every year. Where is their justice and televised court case? Oh that’s right they’re not celebrities I mean “beautiful and talented.. with amazing souls”

If anything this is just trivialising a murder to another episode of the Kardashians.

    • mariska 5 March 2014 at 23:56 #

Sorry to say John, eventhough Reeva was a lady of note…I didn’t even know of her existance until news broke of her murder. Therefore I disagree with your opinion….the whole fuss is because of a man who defied all odds, became a champion and world icon, eventually thinking he is untouchable, thinking he is some god and then brought back down to earth …..in process of losing ALL.

      • BaasDeBeer 6 March 2014 at 08:55 #

        Thanx for your comment Mariska

  2. Travis 3 March 2014 at 16:47 #

Wow, you sure went to a lot of trouble for someone who isn’t the least bit interested in the Oscar Pistorius trial. Just admit that you’re as fascinated by it as the rest of us. Honestly, no-one is impressed by people who claim not to be.

    • BaasDeBeer 3 March 2014 at 17:35 #

The more observant might note that this piece is more a symbolic criticism of societal tendencies to be waylaid by the glamorous and ignore the larger reality that is more uncomfortable to face.
Or, you know, I just spent 10 minutes typing up a pile of crap about something that doesn’t interest me.

      Who knows.

    • monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 11:59 #

      Salute…. Travis!!!!

  3. Ruann 3 March 2014 at 16:57 #

I’ll rather waste my time watching a murder trial than “reading” this. Publishing an empty article with an alluring title is exactly what’s wrong with this world.

    • BaasDeBeer 3 March 2014 at 17:36 #

Much like watching a trial that has zero impact on your life (unless you are a friend, family or beneficiary etc, of course).

How do people not get Metaphor nowadays?

      • Ruann 3 March 2014 at 17:55 #

We do. Just a quick piece of advice: never disappoint your readers by not providing what you promised in a link. Not only will readers feel cheated, and probably not return, but google will see the article as “spam”, since your tags, keywords and and overall SEO in this article shouts screw over. And we all know google should be your best friend. Nothing against you man, in fact I think you have a very interesting blog here, but fake headings makes me want to puke.

      • BaasDeBeer 3 March 2014 at 18:08 #

        Thanx for the input.

“I’ll rather waste my time watching a murder trial than “reading” this.”

      Yet here you are.

      • Ani (@Ani2202) 4 March 2014 at 09:31 #

Because of a title that was obviously used in order to get website clicks and make a bit of money off of this waste-of-time trial.

I agree that way too much of a fuss is made of celebrity scandals. There are way more important things to discuss and worry about, but then just ignore the things you find idiotic, and don’t tempt people who are indeed interested in things like this trial,to your site, purely to berate them for their interest.

      • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:26 #

        1. I generally do not make money from my blog (but if you want to make a deposit, I can provide you with my account details)
        2. As I might already have alluded to elsewhere, this post might seem empty, but when read as metaphor you will see I say a lot more than what I typed.

  5. Ariel 3 March 2014 at 21:41 #

Perhaps some of us are just interested in how our justice system will shape up or ship out when money can provide a good lawyer?

    • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:38 #

      I heard the funniest thing.
Apparently, law students at the University of Pretoria, were sitting in the canteen yesterday watching the trial as if it was a sports game. They even cheered and jeered.
      Weird.

  6. JC 3 March 2014 at 21:48 #

Whatever happens, Oscar will still be a hero to me, as n human, we all make mistakes and what he achieved in life before the tragic incident makes him outstanding. Remember David who had a woman’s husband killed so he could marry her, and G-d forgave him when he repented, who is us then to judge and condemn Oscar?

    • Gary 4 March 2014 at 02:53 #

Wow you raise a very valid point. I mean we are all created equal under and in the sight of G-d no? And as you have just opened my us as well’ i mean who are we too really judge then? Thank you for your amazing insight… 🙂 🙂 🙂 I am so glad to see there is someone else over here with a level head as well… 🙂 🙂 🙂 Oh just one last thing in being recently converted to your beautiful way of thinking, may I be as bold as to suggest a possible letter to Parliament using your rational as motivation in the request for the immediate pardon and release of all other convicted criminals, rapists, paedophiles, wife beaters, kiddie molesters, murderers and any and all other potentially dangerous individuals back into society as well…
I mean, as you said. Who are we to judge, even G-d forgave David, should we then not forgive and forget ALL of our criminals then as well??? Ah yes, so glad you opened my eyes… uh, no wait. Crap. Turns out your just yet another fucking moron after all… ah shoot!!! 😦 😦 😦

      • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:33 #

Haha, Gary, well done on (from a literary perspective) keeping a reading engaged throughout your comment. I KNEW the twist was coming, yet still loved it when it did…

      • Lily Hunter 5 March 2014 at 07:06 #

Yes Gary, and no woman will be safe on Valentine’s Day again – ever! Thanks for the laugh…

      • monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 11:52 #

    • sidcynic 5 March 2014 at 22:49 #

      JC

Everyone having a pity party and going on about what a hero he is, made me wonder how he lost his legs… So i Google’d it. Did any one see that guys full name??? If that’s not the name of a serial killer then I don’t fucking know!

      • BaasDeBeer 6 March 2014 at 08:51 #

        Hahaha!
        Conspiracy logic :p

  7. Graeme 3 March 2014 at 23:39 #

Hey Baas (lol) I ended up here from a link on Facebook. I just wanted to say that if your blog post was to be pointless and irrelevant, you succeeded. However, I can’t help but feel sad for the people involved in the “trial” as it’s a train wreck of a story. I am affected on an emotional level, but no more so than all the other terrible stuff going on in the world – crime, rape, abuse, animal cruelty. My only consolation is that there’s just too much good stuff in life to enjoy to be consumed by the bad stuff. Live, love, and do right by your own conscience.

    • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:36 #

Actually, the toatal pointlessness was on purpose, to indicate my feelings towards this trial. This now begs the question, if the point of my post was to pointless, and it made that point, did I miss my point?

Indeed. Live a life in love and let other people who love to hate life live theirs worrying about unnecessary things

    • sidcynic 5 March 2014 at 23:07 #

      Greame

Personally I think education regarding contraceptives should be the first and foremost thing taught to the people of the world, and not just third world countries like mine (Proudly SA 😉 ).
As an example. Had your parents been informed of the importance of contraception and the potential harm on society through ignorance, disregard or improper use of birth control, I might have been spared the misfortune of reading the comment you made above, thereby saving me the time and the energy I just spent typing this response, when I could have been writing about the good stuff in my life, because at the end of the day that’s what matters isn’t it…. the good shit in my life?

    • sidcynic 11 July 2016 at 23:33 #

Sadly you are one of the minority that is fortunate enough to have more good things than bad in this lio\fe… so yes, enjoy it and totally disregard all those bitching about their hard lives.

  9. Marita Rouse 4 March 2014 at 07:26 #

A beautiful young woman lost her life. It is so so sad!!! BUT what I find more sad is the fact that when my amazing beautiful kind-hearted brother was murdered for NO reason, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, it didn’t even make the front page of the local news paper. He definitely didn’t get the best prosecutor, media coverage, a dedicated TV channel…..

Does this make him less valuable to society? Do we as his dad, mom and sister miss him less because he wasn’t a celebrity or because his murdered wasn’t a celeb….. NO
He was a son to 2 lovely parents, a brother to me and a friend to many!!! His life was just a valuable as reeva’s.
So excuse the people like me who think that this media spectacle is sad because we wish our loved ones were born in “the right” family or at least be a celeb………..

    • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:31 #

I honestly think you see the meaning behind my post. Thank you.

I am truly sorry to hear about your brother.
Find rest in the fact that those who mourned him, did so from their hearts, unlike the people who “mourn” Reeva only because this is a celeb scandal.

    • Dani 5 March 2014 at 16:46 #

Marita, I’m so very sorry to read about your loss. This is what many don’t understand, it’s not that those who think this trial coverage is ridiculous don’t have empathy for Reevas family, simply that cases like your brothers should be treated as equally important, because he was.

  10. Luke 4 March 2014 at 09:25 #

Dig this string. The comments are more revealing than the blog post itself. Totally on the same page as you man. Kiev, Fukushima, 40 Trillion dollar debt and civil unrest all over the world, yet the world should stop dead for this trial. It is pathetic. I feel for the family, as I do every family who looses a child in such a disgusting way. But this whole thing is just another TV show among the plethora of violent ‘distractions’.

    • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:28 #

That’s one thing that bugs me. I honestly don’t think people really give a crap about the woman who was killed. They “care” more about the potentially fallen hero etc.
I stand by my statement that it is sad that she died, I am just way more interested in news such as what you named, through to what’s happening at my local animal shelter. You know, things that actually matter 😉

      Thanx for your comment!

  11. Wilko 4 March 2014 at 10:30 #

BassDeBeer:- I like your approach with this and imagine that in S.A. you will feel intoxicated by the endless reporting of this ubiquitous saga. Of course there are more important things going on in the world all the time, however, I have to say that from a UK citizens perspective, the media are giving it about as much attention as I would expect them to, no more no less. This may have something to do the seriousness of matters in the Crimea, or not. Either way as a non-S.A. citizen I actually am interested in this case, not because of the athlete or the model, but because (I am afraid) it does illustrate to the world the level of violence within S.A., which most people outside S.A (and of course within it) would agree is utterly shocking – gun crime is the problem this case illustrates.. to me at least! Whether the tragically enforced spotlight on this subject makes the slightest bit of difference I’m afraid I doubt but hopefully I am wrong and the media circus surrounding this case does prompt some form of change (which is not unprecedented in certain high profile cases) somehow. Now, as with your bagel comment, where’s my Heineken and Drum &..

    • BaasDeBeer 4 March 2014 at 12:24 #

Exactly, that is a great part of my frustration.
Firstly, the neverending blown-up media coverage of this inane trial has infiltrated every single sphere of existence.
Secondly, yes, it does put some international eye on the violence in SA, but not really from the right angle. I would LOVE for the whole world to see the senseless crime in our country. The murder, rape, assault, corruption etc… Somehow I don’t think this glamour-trial will lead to many people noticing that. Not sure… What do you think?

      • sidcynic 5 March 2014 at 23:48 #

I’m a SA citizen too Baas, My feeling is that, that the biggest crimes are being committed by the governing power of this country. As a result corruption has filtered down into many levels of business, government as well as social sectors. Now I must put faith in a justice system that is run by the same group of corrupt people who have gone as far as changing the constitution to suit their own pockets, to make a ruling in this case that is unbiased and unswayed by the media or finance. I’m at a point were I honestly could not give a rats ass.
Personally I think the man is guilty and is probably going to get away with a slap on the wrist! (not that I am a forensics specialist or a criminal investigator, but from what evidence I have seen/heard and the history of gun slinging and violent behavior from Oscar, I think I’ve been around long enough to know the caliber of person with this kind of “do you know who I am?” behavior). I hope I am wrong and that the Judge is unwavering, but only time will tell. But I sure as hell am not going to become vicariously enthralled by this media frenzy.

screw it, i was about to think up some amazing analogy. But you said it.
        So just, fuck them.

    • Liesel 4 March 2014 at 16:49 #

Slight problem with this comment being a SA citizen myself……. yes, crime is a problem in SA. Senseless, violent, random… agreed. Just a South African problem though?
I don’t think a sensationalised murder trial involving an athlete and a model illustrates anything to the world other then this type of crime happens in SA too. Remind me how the Kardashians became famous? This trial reflects very little on the true state of affairs in SA. Please don’t use it as a measuring stick for “the level of violence within SA”.
I know crime is a problem in SA, but it irks me that you comment that you are utterly shocked as if the UK or any other country for that matter, doesn’t have violent crime.
Yes, this is a tragic and unnecessary loss of a young life, but the real violence is the rape, murder, corruption happening on a daily basis to the average non-famous person. At least the world is watching and Reeva’s family may get some form of justice or closure, unlike the thousands of other victims whose dockets and files and evidence mysteriously disappear or are misfiled!
Crime is everyone’s problem, not just SA.

P.s don’t look now but somewhere in the UK someone is committing a crime RIGHT NOW
P.P.S considering our utterly shocking levels of crime, we don’t need your exports….. keep your murderous honeymooners to yourself.

      thanks….. Proudly South African

        Love the patriotism.
Don’t you find it difficult to keep up sometimes?
I know I do, no matter how much I love this country.

Maybe, I get so frustrated BECAUSE I love it.
        Who knows.

      • Liesel 6 March 2014 at 08:38 #

Baas: Without hope we will truly be lost. SA is a great country with amazing people and we have come so far in such a short time….. I just feel that we are all a bit lost at the moment.
And the frustrating thing is that people think they can fix the country from the bottom up! Doesn’t work that way. Corruption needs to be sorted from the top down.
That being said, it strikes a nerve when people are constantly criticizing SA and they don’t even live here!!

      • BaasDeBeer 6 March 2014 at 09:01 #

As it is said: A fish rots from it’s head…

We can cope and be positive and all that, but in the end, we don’t make The Decisions, democracy is a failed system, and I should totally be president 🙂

Geez people are sensitive. I thought it was brilliant.

This trial reminds me of that old flick, Running Man, or more recently, the Hunger Games. Its entertainment for the masses.

I for one cant stand this. A trial should stay within the court and not be displayed for all to be entertained.

    “Are you not entertained”?

I hesitate to say, but maybe what this planet needs IS actually a world war.
Give the masses something REAL to rally behind. Something to stand for that matters…

  16. Opinionated.. 4 March 2014 at 15:46 #

I find your argument to be hypocritical. You complain about the people following the Pistorius case but then again aren’t you just as bad following those people following the case? If it bothers you so much then just carry on with your life and let them carry on with theirs even if they are following it. Yes there is a lot going on in the world at the moment with Syria, Kiev etc which I can guarantee the people that are following the Pistorius case are most likely following what is happening in those countries too. Its scary, tragic and sad to see so many innocent people being killed, but Reeva was innocent as well. She may be one person that has been murdered compared to millions out there, but that doesn’t make her less important. Yes, many people are murdered and their families never get justice over the murder, but if they had the opportunity to get justice they would, just like Reeva’s family are doing – let them have their justice while the world watches. If it bothers you so much then delete your fb account and turn off your tv. And to the guy who’s colleague said “what is Kiev” – she’s just the exception and I wouldn’t ask her opinion on anything again.

  25. Justin Barter 5 March 2014 at 09:45 #

Am i the only one that dragged his mouse over and highlighted the points to see if there was some ‘hidden’ (white) text? 😛 Anyway, I do find the trial ‘interesting’, but then again I find the Housewives of New Jersey interesting to too so that’s not saying much. I think the reason people (or at least me personally) shift focus to trivial media like this vs the such atrocities as famine or war etc is because those things are a lot harder to face. It’s denial really; I don’t think it’s a case of who cares more about what…you have to almost consider this gossip. No one wants to gossip about things that really upset them. No one really gave a shit about Miley Cyrus shaking her ass on stage but it made for entertainment and this sadly is no different. It’s also just an outlet for people to vent I think. I did enjoy the blog entry though – consider yourself followed 😛

    • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 10:09 #

      Thank you Justin!
I think I should totally do a post on *insert some topic here* with white text…

I agree with you on the whole denial/gossip angle.
Personally, I escape reality with comedy and such. Even though I hold the real life shit such as wars etc in much higher regard than trivial entertainment, I only fill my mind with enough of it to be “in the know”.
I mean, wouldn’t want to get overly negative/depro now, would we?

  26. karlozoz 5 March 2014 at 09:59 #

Baasdebeers-cool blog, I totally get, ‘ the the ‘VANILLA ESSENCE’ of it lol. In one way it is to consider what transpired especially to REEVA, we do care, God bless her. But what does it PROFIT us from paying soo much attention to things like this trial. Justice will prevail (hopefully) along with our daily existence, let’s help those who need and deserve it and pay attention to charity.

Which starts with who and where?

    • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 10:10 #

The world needs more people like you 😉

  27. pink 5 March 2014 at 10:40 #

    Dear sir
I find it fascinating… The things your commentators read into what you are saying. And they get so excited about the mad, bad and sad things that came from their own minds, not yours. Guess there’s not much one can do about some people’s comprehension skills, or the lack thereof. I never comment on things like this, but suddenly I just feel the urge to laugh out loud at the human race!

    • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 19:12 #

I find it liberating/empowering to help release other’s thoughts. Sadly, not everyone can see the sentiment behind the words (or sometimes the lack thereof).
It is, however, still good to be even a small catalyst in helping people think a bit further than what the media tells them to…

  28. monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 11:02 #

For someone who doesn’t care bout the trial… you have set up an entire blog about it…. Hahaha… Oh dear… Bit of contradiction goin on there!!! And it does seem as if you are compelled to try and proove something… I personally believe every life is precious and can… only pray there is justice for her life…. Or wot hope do we all have…. I am sure you would want the same, if things struck closer to home!!!! And why worry bout a war that hasn’t happened… ? You have far too much time on your hands!!!

    • Teresa Kriek 5 March 2014 at 11:25 #

Monkey nuts – well done. A war will strike so close to home, it will take away you and your family. And NUT, the government, their tax laws your e-toll, the price hike in petrol is KILLING YOU WHILE YOU ARE ALIVE – you and your family. A WAR – it means this little to you?

      • monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 12:19 #

Tell me Teresa…. And wot are you gunna do about this war then if it happens???? Sounds like you got it all figured out then… you dumb shit!!!

      • Teresa Kriek 5 March 2014 at 12:23 #

Shame, you must be one of those thin little boys that decided NOT TO GO TO ARMY….

  29. Teresa Kriek 5 March 2014 at 11:18 #

This is a simple “wmurder case”. The victim, body, accused, murderer, weapon, rounds, cellphones etc etc was on the scene….. imagine the courtcase and facts the NPA needs to put together to proof that Lolly Jackson was shot by George Luka Smith, how much money have exchanged hands between government officials and these “mafia like” caracters, who shot 17 shots on a bike at Cyril Beeka, why, who wrapped up a body in bubble wrap and who is trying to kill poor Mr Radivan – who incidently bought Mr Beeka’s company for his son, who is now “patroling the Somalia coast”…. what and who will “cross examine” these contraversial issues – so if you think you know the law, try to think what Gerrie Nel needs to do to get criminals – alive and well and still operational – convicted…. ok, and then, the fact that it took a year to bring this really easy to proof case to court…. The NPA’s been trying to nail the richest most arogant government officials and drug-lords, mafia whatever to court for the last 7 years…. what will a witness remember 7 years after he/she made a statement (presuming they live to tell their story)?????

    • monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 12:24 #

Think you’re on the wrong blog… we are all discussing the importance of human life and how much relevance it bears to certain individuals…. You are on your own rant woman…

      • Teresa Kriek 5 March 2014 at 12:42 #

You must be right then, that is why their are 10 importants points you missed…..

    • monkey nuts 5 March 2014 at 12:26 #

And you must be a BEASTLY warlord!!!! HAAHAHA…. OOOHHH…

      • Teresa Kriek 5 March 2014 at 12:50 #

You must be the mkst ignorant little idiot….. A war??? Think a little….The contraversial weapons transaction is still investigated. We purchased the most elegant weapons, such as the beutiful top ofghe range Grippen, which would put us in a great position to defend our airspace – should there be war….. Yet, again we have no money to train pilots to fly them…. as I was saying NUT, you cannot brkng back life, it’s gone tjom….. BUT, we can prepare for a war, but YOU would not know WHAT to do, maybe pick up the bodies and hug them??? THERE IS A WAR! Try and face that fact – o ja, your choice of words on an open domain is impressive – but then again – fits your name “NUT”

      • karlozoz 5 March 2014 at 12:52 #

Is this the standard between russia and ukraine? Both different but still the same. Consider the assylum…Auto BEAST!!!

have you ever felt the pain of loosing someone that you loved? Sorry ,wrong question. ..have you ever loved someone? I feel the real pain in my heart for both parties and their families. Follow the case or not; the choice is yours, but don’t judge others who do. I wonder what you would have done if you were involved somehow. …..or can’t u care less? Would you like it if everyone tell you to get on with your life when you are hurting?

    • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 14:26 #

      Yes. I have.
      And yes, I have.
And no, I am not involved in any manner, hence my complete disinterest in it.
The question is, are you at all directly involved?

  32. Tamara 5 March 2014 at 14:08 #

You’re right. Let all the killers, rapists and robbers go free.

  33. Dani 5 March 2014 at 16:34 #

I agree with nr 6 the most… on a more serious note, I agree, this involves the families and friends, not everyone else… and is certainly not “the crime of the century”. Little kids being raped, a boy being drowned in a tub of boiling water after witnessing his mother raped and father murdered, why are these not also on their own channel. Crimes against our children are forgotten the day after the 5 second newscast (if it even makes it onto the news). Also why have so many people lost their minds? There is no doubt that this man Killed his girlfriend, the only question is if he did it intentionally or not… If he accidentally shot her multiple times through a bathroom door, he should go to jail for manslaughter, if he shot her on purpose he should go to jail for murder… there is no innocent here…

    • BaasDeBeer 5 March 2014 at 19:09 #

Can you imagine what impact even a 10th of the exposure this trial is getting, could mean for (for instance) children being molested in townships?

  34. James 5 March 2014 at 22:03 #

The only thing about this trial that really PISSED me off was the R1 million Bail that had to be paid! Baas i agree fully with you that this trial is a waste of time, energy and money. The sensationalizing of it and all the Media hype around it will not in a million years do anything of value. Not in S.A or U.K or where ever. What this trial should do if anything at all is highlight the fact that Justice is not free and fair for all. Equality is a word used in propaganda as in the up and coming elections. It is only a word to our power hungry politicians who use it in a sentence stringed together with other words of equal power to lure the POOR for VOTES. In the same way our JUSTICE SYSTEM uses it to sucker punch the poor who happen to walk into a court room innocent of a crime just to walk out found GUILTY due to a pathetic State Lawyer! There is NOTHING fair about this trial. Why on the day Oscar was given a R1 million bail did 4 Hijackers who murdered a man and his wife for a car receive R1000 bail each? REALLY!? I lost all faith in the so called justice system in this country years ago due to this kind of stuff. More recently cyclists attacked the driver of a mini van and sprayed him and his passenger with tear-gas. The footage went viral and since then i believe 3 of the cyclist involved have been arrested in CPT. We then have the MEC of roads pipe up and say that these men must be put into jail. People need to understand that you cannot go around committing road rage offences with out punishment. The punishment must fit the crime! All good for him to say this and I agree. But I bet if you asked the same man if we can then bring back the DEATH PENALTY then for all the convicted murderers he would say NO. So even his comment on the cyclists and their crime is not looked at with EQUALITY! further more I could not tell you on what Channel this JOKE is broadcast on. I actually stopped watching NEWS channels around 6 years ago. Yeah sure that keeps me uninformed but hell i live a much happier life not knowing.

  35. Liko 6 March 2014 at 06:41 #

Everything you wrote, Baas, is true. Media coverage should have been kept for the news reports only. I know how if feels to loose a loved one – but this isn’t the way to remember the victim, why aren’t all the profit made by broadcasting the trail, donated to care for abused people? Make something so negative end more positive

    Loved your post Baas!

What I loved the most was reading the comments! 🙂 It created so much debate on this little domain alone, it just proves how different we really are.

My first question however was; Bloody hell, is it on TV!!!! hahaha, I did not even know!

My second question was; I wonder if people watching it sit and eat their dinner while watching it. Really bad for your digestive system! 🙂

I couldn’t agree with you more BAAAAAS!

  39. Susan 6 March 2014 at 14:07 #

Baas you really need to get a life. You obviously have way too much free time being able to reply to virtually every comment!
What happened to freedom of choice? Leave those who want to watch this mindless drivel be and do something productive.
A young woman died tragically and unnecessarily. What a waste!

    • BaasDeBeer 9 March 2014 at 12:56 #

I have a life, and I love it.
What is wrong with engaging with people who take time to comment on my posts? I feel honoured to have you all do it, so why diss you with silence?

Anyway, if you were to open your mind a bit, you’ll realise that this was not at all a post to say that death is good or unsad or anything. It was in fact, quite the obvious. A mockery of the trivialisation of murder, the glamorisation of legal proceedings and the subsequent self inflicted ignorance of things that actually matter.

      • EKTvZ030 10 March 2014 at 16:39 #

I could not agree more that the televising is ABSURD!!!

I don’t think anybody thought about the fact that ALL EVIDENCE has to be brought to court and that every single portion of it needs to be documented and questioned and that televising it, WILL HAVE and HAS HAD AN IMPACT, and ONLY NOW do we actually come to a standstill that a body and injuries to the body needs to be exposed, and something like twitter will and can state content explicitly….

WHY DO WE JUST NOT STOP THIS…… Is the televising of this event making a difference??? If it mabe STOPS one or two people from murdering (now providing they do have a television and is not making use of the rain to execute such awful activities, while we are all fixed to the teles…), then yes, it may be worthwhile.

Some of you might have though I am a WARLORD, but to all of you following this blog – a murder trail is bad…. All “inquest dockets”, (for those of you who does not know what this means – an un-natural death docket”), requires the body to go to the State Mortuary and not gradually lifted in a hurst to AVBOB….

All injuries are documented and pieces of the human tissue and of all organs are disected to “determine cause of death”…. Will you still like to see this, if this was one of your relatives….

We all look at boms going off somewhere every night and it does not bother us that much – it is just a war…… Televising evidence of a murder to the extinct we are doing it right now in South Africa is TOTALLY FAR-FETCHED, embarissing and hopefully disturbing to most of you out there… Imagine a mother having to witness this type of content!!

God forbid I have to share the murder of my child on a “special channel on TV”….

      • BaasDeBeer 12 March 2014 at 10:41 #

      And Franklin & Bash.
      Law and Order too.

      The script is better.

So many comments for a topic no one is supposed to care about contradinkywinky of note. He is guilty I say. Also could someone please punch Roux in the face. What a plonker.

    • EKTvZ030 10 March 2014 at 16:56 #

However, if you ever did something wrong, knew you were guilty, wouldn’t you WANT Roux on your defence team???

      • BaasDeBeer 12 March 2014 at 10:42 #

I don’t get sick, but if I do, I would want Dr House as my doc 😉

  44. julie 7 March 2014 at 21:12 #

if someone is guilty of murder…. be it a thousand people or 1 person they should be punished…. wether they are famous or not…. its not right

    • BaasDeBeer 9 March 2014 at 12:58 #

      I concur.

I would also like to see every trial for every murderer get its own DSTV channel in the future.
Maybe then police will do their jobs.

      • EKTvZ030 12 March 2014 at 05:35 #

Now this is interesting, as I believe that any Investigating Officer watching this trail will question his/her actions when opening a docket and taking down witness statements…

How many of you have tried to open a docket for a burglary at your house, where the officer on duty TRIES TO WRITE YOUR STATEMENT of events, in the most simplest way they can – NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO STATE, they complete and make you sign… Because why, you get a Case number and you will purely just claim from your insurance?????

Most dockets openned don’t even go to trial Baas, because the evidence is just not enough and Prosecutors have to write endless remarks and questions to invetsigating officers BEFORE they can actually complete a “Klagstaat”….

I am NOT in the Legal profession, but was involved with documenting processes for the Integrated Criminal Justice System, and it was an eye opener then.

In the meanwhile, visible policing has become a circus……

      • BaasDeBeer 12 March 2014 at 10:49 #

OK, not entirely sure what your point was, but what I picked up was that you do find this trial interesting for the legal aspects of it?

As for the dockets etc, we as a country are fucked.
Our house got broken into a while ago, and I gave up halfway trying to help the cop get the exact details down, so I went for a general OK-ishness in it.
Bad of me, I know, but screw it.

Neil Postman’s book “Amusing Ourselves to Death” comes to mind. I think you’d enjoy it, Baas, and then you might also enjoy Roger Waters’ album “Amused to Death,” inspired by the book.

Oh, and for anyone saying you’re as preoccupied with the trial as everyone else because you continue discussing it here, I don’t think a discussion about society’s fascination with it has anything to do with the trial per se…
